Innoveda Introduces DxDesigner `Design Definition' Solution

MARLBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2001-- Innoveda, Inc. (Nasdaq:INOV), a leading provider of innovative software and services for the design of advanced electronic products, today announced DxDesigner(TM), a new web-based solution that redefines the paradigm for design creation. DxDesigner forms the gateway linking computer-aided engineering and team-based design collaboration. This advanced solution removes critical obstacles that can severely impact manufacturers' ability to introduce new products to the market. DxDesigner minimizes the complexity of integrating subsystems, the time lost in researching and selecting components, and signal performance problems associated with high-speed devices.

Design Definition Supercedes Design Entry

DxDesigner redefines front-end design engineering through a process of ``design definition'' that combines four key process technologies: component information systems; design entry and sharing; simulation and planning; and enterprise connectivity within a single comprehensive solution. This enables better communication among geographically dispersed engineering and manufacturing teams, resulting in more efficient component selection, less post-layout rework, fewer design defects and shorter prototype-debugging cycles.

Enterprise-wide Collaboration

According to Rick Almeida, vice president of marketing, Product Realization Group, ``Manufacturers of electronic products are spending too much time trying to ensure the integrity of information into and out of engineering. They're looking for ways to allow the whole organization, not just engineering, to communicate on design intent and collaborate on design solutions proactively. DxDesigner tackles this problem head on by integrating multiple tasks and sharing results early in the design process. We believe this unique approach will redefine the role of schematic entry, making it a more useful approach to new product engineering.''

DxDesigner enables geographically dispersed teams to coordinate their efforts and use a centralized, corporate-approved parts library. This reduces errors and ensures the product is not held up in manufacturing due to obsolete or unavailable components. The use of advanced hierarchical design techniques enables the reuse of common or standard subsystems in future designs, speeding delivery of the next generation of a product.

DxDesigner also enables engineers to create designs and simulate them using the latest in component technology. Engineers faced with using high-speed devices can use DxDesigner to find, test and eliminate signal integrity problems prior to the first PCB spin. DxDesigner can analyze any and all PCB nets for potential signal integrity problems and develop physical design constraints based on the analysis to ensure a working end-product.

The new DxDesigner scalable tool suite will be available in three configurations:

  • DxDesigner - The foundation for design entry, library and data management, component selection from corporate databases, and web-based schematic viewing. It provides a hierarchical tree view of the design, a navigator to display components and nets for a given design context, a multi-object attribute editor, a design drawing tool, a parts and design data selection tool, and a design synchronization capability that manages design data. A unique feature for sharing design intent enables engineers to see schematics through a web-based viewer over the Internet. In addition, designs can be captured in .PDF format, and viewed and navigated through an Adobe® Acrobat Reader.
  • DxDesigner EE - Builds off of DxDesigner by adding Innoveda's Fusion(TM) technology to enable analog, digital, or mixed A/D design and simulation. Engineers quickly can simulate analog and/or digital circuitry, while maintaining tight linkage to the enterprise for team-based design and component selection.
  • DxDesigner HSD - Incorporates technology for high-speed PCB planning including: a graphical pre-placement tool to define and analyze critical component placement selections; a spreadsheet for entering and managing constraints; a graphical tool for designing and simulating net topologies that leverages Innoveda's industry-leading XTK(TM) simulation engine; and a high-performance analysis tool that can sweep high-speed parameters to determine the proper constraints for placement and routing.

Pricing and Availability

DxDesigner is scheduled to be available in Q3 2001 on Windows and Unix platforms. The tool suite is scalable to meet companies' financial and engineering requirements. Pricing in the United States ranges from $1,750 for the entry-level series up to $35,000 for a fully equipped series. The new design-creation solution will be exhibited next month at Booth #2621, at the 38th Design Automation Conference.
